What actually decides whether an extension looks right
Three things: the brick match, the roofline and the window heads. Get those wrong and it reads as an add-on forever, no matter how good the kitchen inside it is. We source reclaimed or matched brick where the original is a period stock, and we line the heads and cills through with the existing openings.
The other half is the connection. A new room that opens into the old house through a small doorway feels like a shed with plumbing. Widening the opening usually needs a steel, sometimes calcs, and it is nearly always the money best spent on the whole job.
