Anyone can build something lovely for July. The trick down here is making it work in the other eleven months.
We build outdoor spaces the way we build extensions: real foundations, weatherproof structures, insulation where it earns its keep, and electrics installed and certified properly.
That might be an insulated garden room for working from home, a covered terrace with lighting and heat, a built-in outdoor kitchen, or a seating area with a fire pit that gets used all winter.
Designed around how you'll actually use it, and finished to match the house so it looks like it belongs to the property rather than to a catalogue.
Proper base, insulated floor, walls and roof, double glazed doors, power and heating. Warm in January.
Data, sockets where you need them, decent light and enough insulation that you are not working in a coat.
A roof over the patio so the barbecue plan survives a Devon forecast. Lighting and heaters wired in.
Timber or aluminium, footed properly so wind off the water does not become an interesting problem.
Built-in units, weatherproof worktops, mains power and water where the run allows it.
Built-in seating and a hard-landscaped area around it, so it is used in October rather than photographed in July.

Insulation, airtightness and heating, in that order. A single-skin timber cabin is a shed with a nice door. Insulated floor, walls and roof, decent glazing and a sealed envelope means a small heater keeps it comfortable and your laptop is not sat in condensation.
Then services. Power run in armoured cable and certified, lighting on sensible switching, and data if you actually work out there. Doing that at build stage costs a fraction of retrofitting it once the floor is down and the garden is back to grass.
